Lighting of the San Elizario Chapel
In 2016, my husband Jason planned to surprise me by lighting the San Elizario Church in pink a gesture of love, strength, and support for my breast cancer journey. But that day, life got busy and the plan didn’t happen.
The next day, Jason told me what he had intended to do. His words brought me to tears. That heartfelt moment inspired us to bring his idea to life not just for me, but for every woman who has fought, survived, or been taken by breast cancer. We decided to light the church pink as a tribute of hope, remembrance, and love.
When the sun set on September 30, 2017, the San Elizario sky glowed with light and promise. During the Luminaria Ceremony and Lighting of the San Elizario Church, hundreds of luminarias illuminated the chapel grounds. Each light represented a story a life touched by cancer, a loved one remembered, or a survivor celebrated.
That evening became more than just a ceremony. It became a symbol of perseverance, unity, and faith a reminder that even in the darkest moments, hope shines brightest. With the support of our amazing community, we lit up the San Elizario Church in pink, and it was truly a breathtaking sight of love and resilience.
